EU CHRISTMAS PRESENT FOR PORBEAGLE AND SPURDOG SHARKS

At this year's European Fisheries Council the EU has decided on a zero TAC (Total Allowable Catch) for Porbeagle sharks which effectively closes the Porbeagle fishery in European waters.

The Spurdog shark TAC has been reduced by 90% with the remaining 10% being regarded as bycatch.

These are major steps and at last Europe is moving to a position of being able to hold it's head up in shark conservation terms.
