Campaigns
Hitherto the Shark Conservation Society (RPSC) has only concerned itself with running research and awareness expeditions. Henceforth the society will engage in a small number of campaigns which will be selected on the basis of their relevance to the society's work and expertise, and there being a reasonable expectation of a successful outcome.
We are currently engaged in liasing with the Home Office and developing Codes of Conduct and course modules for training those who will be licensed to tag sharks. For updates on SCS campaigns please see the News section.
The Society is delighted to report that the Government of Qatar have agreed to the three suggestions made by SCS at the end of the April/May expedition. See the 'News section' and the 'September expedition report' for further information.
The October 2009 Adriatic expedition successfully proved a Blue Shark pupping ground and the data has been given to the SCS Mediterranean Scientific Advisor, Alen Soldo, who we hope will now endeavour to get appropriate protection for this valuable area.
